You should download the release that will match the rest of your Gnome environment nicely from the Gnome FTP servers:

• the latest from the 2.6 series to go with your brand new Gnome 2.6 desktop,
• a bit older incarnation for Gnome 2.4 is here, or
• in case you are still stuck with the 1.4.x releases of Gnome desktop, try ggv 1.1.96,

Occasionally, I make a hack in perl. Most of them are for personal use, but here are two that may be generally useful: this script parses the ouput of uptimed and displays it in a HTML table and this one retrieves information about events that took place on a certain day or in a certain month and creates a HTML page listing them. Finally, this wondrous script lets you browse over your music collection and tar whole albums on the fly in order to let you download them in one piece.
